Do Not Solicit, Unsubscribed, and SMS Unsubscribed
Knowing your donors' desired communication preferences is essential for every nonprofit. It is important to respect your contact's requests for privacy and create positive experiences with your organization.
With DonorDock, three different settings are available to help keep track of communication preferences for your organization.
Do Not Solicit
Do Not Solicit is a way to identify contacts not wanting to be marketed to via phone, email, or letter. The Do Not Solicit feature is used primarily to assist with report filters and to assist you in making marketing lists that do not include contacts who have requested not to be solicited.
Contacts marked "Do Not Solicit" are filtered out of reports by default. In instances when you wish to include Do Not Solicit contacts in your report, you may check the box to include Do Not Solicit Contacts in your report results.
The Do Not Solicit toggle does not prevent marketing emails or texts from being sent to contacts. To prevent marketing emails from being sent, a contact must also be unsubscribed. To prevent a contact from receiving Texts, they must be marked as SMS Unsubscribed.
Unsubscribed (Email)
Contacts may unsubscribe from emails by clicking the unsubscribe at the bottom of a marketing email from DonorDock, or you may mark their contact as unsubscribed under contact actions.
All bulk marketing emails sent through DonorDock Outreach will contain a link for unsubscribing. This will appear automatically at the bottom of the email when sent. A general unsubscribe link merge tag {{unsubscribe}} may be inserted on marketing emails if you wish to update where this link appears on your email. This merge tag will only be generated on bulk marketing emails. The merge tag will not populate on transactional templates (receipts), or on individual emails sent to a contact through the Send Email activity.
SMS Unsubscribe (Texts)
When sending bulk text communications, if the contact replies "STOP" to your organization's SMS phone number, then the contact will be marked as SMS Unsubscribed. When a contact is SMS unsubscribed, they will not receive any text messages sent through DonorDock.
๐๐ฟโโ๏ธ Can we resubscribe a contact if they Unsubscribed by mistake?
Yes, absolutely! If a contact is currently in Unsubscribed status and would like to start receiving outreach emails or SMS messages once again, you may resubscribe them by following the steps below:
Navigate to Contacts > Contacts and search for the contact
Click on the name of the contact to enter their details page
In the top right corner of their details page, click the contact actions icon (3 vertical dots)
Select the action to Resubscribe or Resubscribe SMS
๐๐ปโโ๏ธ Can I see the email the contact unsubscribed from?
If you need to see what email a contact clicked to the unsubscribe link, you may run the Unsubscribe Activity Report:
Navigate to Reporting > Reports at the top of DonorDock
Under available Standard Activity Reports on the right, click to run the Unsubscribe Report
All contacts who have clicked Unsubscribe will appear on the report with their email, the spouse's email (if any), current unsubscribed status, the date they unsubscribed, and the subject line of the email when the contact clicked on Unsubscribe.
