Giving Hearts Day Data
Giving Hearts Day is a 24-hour fundraising event for nonprofits in North Dakota and Minnesota. If your organization participates in Giving Hearts Day, you can import donation data from the Giving Hearts Day portal into DonorDock to keep your donor records and gift history up to date.
Before importing, we recommend doing a quick cleanup pass on your exported file. This helps improve data quality and reduces errors during the import process.

Recommended cleanup steps:
Add a Campaign value (optional but recommended)
If you want all Giving Hearts Day gifts grouped under a single campaign in DonorDock:
Locate the Campaign column
Enter a value such as
Giving Hearts Day 2026(or your current year)Use autofill to apply it to all rows
Replace “Null” values with blank fields
Giving Hearts Day may insert Null when a field is left empty.
Use Find and Replace <CTRL> + <F>
Find:
NullReplace with: (leave blank)
Apply to all columns where Null appears
This keeps your data cleaner and prevents unnecessary text from importing into DonorDock.
Add helpful segmentation columns (optional)
You can add extra columns before import to support reporting and segmentation in DonorDock.
Examples:
Gift Tags
Match Type (such as “GHD Business Match”)
Notes or Flags for special gift attributes
For example, if you have a Business Match column from Giving Hearts Day, you could add a Gift Tag like GHD Business Match to easily segment and report on those gifts later in DonorDock.
When finished cleaning and editing your file, save the updated CSV.

Wait for the import to complete
The import will show as Pending during processing
You do not need to stay on the page
Once complete, DonorDock will display totals for donors added, donors updated, campaigns, funds, appeals, gifts, activities, notes, and any errors.
Waiting Period (Recommended)
We recommend waiting one to two days after Giving Hearts Day before exporting and importing your data into DonorDock.
During and shortly after Giving Hearts Day, gifts may still change due to:
Refunds
Canceled gifts
Status updates
Waiting allows these changes to settle, making your imported data more accurate and requiring less cleanup later.
If you need to send personal thank-you messages sooner, you can export and import your data periodically throughout the day. DonorDock will ignore gifts that have already been imported, allowing you to safely import updated files as the day goes on. Just keep in mind that refunds and changes may still need to be addressed later.
Thank You Expectations
Donors who give through Giving Hearts Day receive a transactional receipt from the Giving Hearts Day platform. This receipt is functional but not personalized.
Importing gifts into DonorDock allows you to send more meaningful, personalized thank-you messages from your organization. If you choose to import throughout the day, you can begin stewardship sooner, while still planning to reconcile any changes after the event.
Duplicates and Matching Donors
Donors are not required to use the same Giving Hearts Day account year over year. As a result, duplicate donor records may occur in DonorDock if contact matching is not handled carefully.
To match imported Giving Hearts Day gifts to existing contacts, DonorDock uses the following matching options:
First Name + Last Name + Email
First Name + Last Name + Address Line 1
If neither match is found, a new contact record will be created. Review your matches carefully during the import process to ensure gifts are applied to the correct contact and to avoid misallocating donations.

Otto Tips
🧭 Name your campaign clearly: Using a consistent campaign name makes year-over-year reporting easier.
⚓ Null is not your friend: Replacing Null values with blanks keeps your data cleaner in DonorDock.
🗺️ Undo is your safety net: If something looks off, you can undo the import and try again.
