Merge Tag Test Values

When you use the Test option on a template in DonorDock, merge tags are populated with sample information so you can preview how personalized data will appear before using the template with an actual Contact or Gift.

The sample Contact used during template testing is Jane Doe.

For example, a template containing:

Dear {{donor.first_name}},

will display as:

Dear Jane,

when the template is tested.

These values are test data only. They do not represent an actual Contact in your DonorDock account and will be replaced with the applicable record information when the template is used for a real communication.

Test a Template with Merge Tags
  1. Open the template you want to review.

  2. Make sure your most recent changes have been saved.

  3. Select Test in the upper-right corner.

  4. Review the generated communication.

  5. Confirm that merge tags appear in the expected locations and that the populated values work with the surrounding wording and design.

Testing is especially useful for reviewing:

  • Names and salutations

  • Addresses

  • Dates

  • Currency values

  • Giving information

  • Spacing around populated values

  • Line breaks

  • Longer values that may affect the layout
