Using Automations for Drip Email Campaigns

Automations can create a sequence of donor communications that begins when a specific event occurs in DonorDock.

For example, you could create a welcome series for a first-time donor:

Trigger: Gift Created

↓

Email 1: Thank the donor

↓

Email 2: Share more about your mission

↓

Email 3: Invite the donor to get involved

Rather than manually identifying and emailing each donor, the Automation determines when a contact qualifies and creates the configured follow-up steps.

Create an Email Automation
  1. Navigate to Automations > Automations.

  2. Create a new Automation.

  3. Select the Trigger that should begin the workflow.

  4. Add any filters needed to limit who enters the Automation.

  5. Add a Send Email step.

  6. Build the email or select the appropriate template.

  7. Set when the email should be sent.

  8. Add additional Send Email steps or other follow-up actions as needed.

  9. Review the Automation.

  10. Publish the Automation when it is ready to begin running.

An Automation can contain up to 100 steps. Individual steps can occur immediately or can have a due date or send date scheduled up to 365 days after the Trigger.

Creating an Automation does not immediately begin sending communication. A member of your team must configure and publish the Automation before it can run.

Once published, contacts who meet the triggering conditions can then enter the workflow and receive the configured steps.

This gives your team control over the audience, content, and timing before automated donor communication begins.
