Viewing Connections between Gifts in Reports
Gift Reports in DonorDock include fields that help you identify relationships between gifts, including linked Soft Credits, Matching Gifts, and gifts connected to a parent Pledge.
These fields are useful when you want to review related transactions without opening each individual Gift Overview. For example, you can see whether a gift has a linked Matching Gift, how much has been attributed through linked Soft Credits, or whether a gift is connected to a Pledge with an outstanding balance.
Add Gift Connection Columns to a Report
Connection fields may not appear by default on every Gift Report. You can add them after running the report.
Run the Report.
Click the Columns icon at the top left of the report.
Search for the columns you want to add.
Check or uncheck fields to customize the report.
Click outside the pop-up box to return to the report.
The selected fields will now appear as columns in the report.
Gift Connection Fields

Related Soft Credits | Displays the number of Soft Credit Gifts linked to the gift. |
Related Soft Credit $ | Displays the Soft Credit Amount associated with linked Soft Credit Gifts. |
Related Match Gifts | Displays the number of Matching Gifts linked to the gift. |
Related Match Gift $ | Displays the Received Amount associated with linked Matching Gifts. |
Parent Pledge Balance | If the gift is connected to a parent Pledge, displays the remaining unpaid balance of that Pledge. |
Parent Pledge Start Date | If the gift is connected to a parent Pledge, displays the start date of the associated Pledge. |
Reporting on Linked Soft Credits
Soft Credits allow a contact to receive recognition for a contribution without increasing the amount your organization actually received.
When a Soft Credit Gift is linked to another gift, the relationship can be reviewed using:
Related Soft Credits
Related Soft Credit $
For example, if a $1,000 DAF gift is received from a DAF provider and a $1,000 Soft Credit Gift is linked to recognize the individual donor, the received gift may show:
Related Soft Credits: 1
Related Soft Credit $: $1,000
The Soft Credit Gift itself is also automatically assigned the Gift Tag Linked Soft Credit when it is linked to another gift.
You can use this Gift Tag in a report when you want to identify the Soft Credit Gift records themselves.
Reporting on Matching Gifts
Matching Gifts can also be linked to the original contribution that generated the match.
The following fields allow you to review those relationships in a Gift Report:

For example, if a donor gives $500 and their employer provides a linked $500 Matching Gift, the donor's original gift may show:
Related Match Gifts: 1
Related Match Gift $: $500
When a Matching Gift is linked to another gift, the Matching Gift is automatically assigned the Gift Tag Linked Match Gift.
You can use this tag as a Gift Report filter when you want to identify the Matching Gift records themselves.
Reporting on Gifts Connected to Pledges
A gift can be connected to one parent Pledge at a time.
When a gift is associated with a Pledge, the following report columns can provide additional information about that Pledge:
Report Column | What It Shows |
Parent Pledge Balance | The remaining amount still due on the parent Pledge. |
Parent Pledge Start Date | The date the parent Pledge began. |
These fields can be especially helpful when reviewing Pledge payments and determining whether an associated Pledge still has an outstanding balance.
Filter Reports Using Connection Fields
After adding a connection field to a report, you can filter the column to narrow the results further.
To filter a column:
Run the report.
Locate the column you want to filter.
Click the Filter icon, which looks like a funnel.
Select the filter condition.
Enter the applicable value.
Click Filter.
For example, you could:
Filter Related Soft Credits to Is Greater Than 0 to find gifts with linked Soft Credits.
Filter Related Match Gifts to Is Greater Than 0 to find gifts with linked Matching Gifts.
Filter Parent Pledge Balance to Is Greater Than 0 to find gifts connected to Pledges that still have an outstanding balance.
Understanding What the Connection Fields Represent
Linked gifts remain separate gift records in DonorDock.
Connecting gifts does not combine their amounts or other gift information. Instead, the link records the relationship between those transactions.
For example, a received DAF gift and its linked Soft Credit may each have their own:
Contact
Gift Date
Amount fields
Payment information
Campaign, Appeal, Fund, or Giving Page
Gift Tags
The connection fields in Gift Reports allow you to see that relationship while preserving each gift as its own record.
